Answers to common questions about your account, payments, and rights.
About Your Plan
How does the settlement plan work?
We negotiate a reduced balance with your creditor on your behalf. You pay the agreed amount over a timeline you choose - lump sum, 12, 24, or 36 months. No interest is ever added. Your total payment is locked at enrollment and never increases.
What does "no interest" mean exactly?
When you enroll in a plan, the total you owe is fixed at that moment. We don't add interest, penalties, or fees on top of your plan amount. The number you see at enrollment is the number you'll pay. Period.
What happens if I miss a payment?
Plans can include penalty-free missed payments each year, set by your creditor - no penalty, no late fees, no judgment. If a payment doesn't clear one month, we automatically apply one of your free misses and your plan continues the next month. If you're facing a longer hardship, open the Hardship Assistance flow in your account and we can pause your plan entirely while you get back on your feet.
Can I pay more than the monthly amount?
Yes. You can make any payment up to your remaining balance at any time. Paying more moves your payoff date closer. There are no prepayment penalties.
What happens when I finish paying?
Your account is marked as settled in full. You'll see a celebration screen with your total savings and a summary of your journey. Your creditor is notified that the account is resolved. You're done.
Your Rights
What is the FDCPA and how does it protect me?
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (15 U.S.C. §1692) protects you from unfair, deceptive, or abusive collection practices. Under the FDCPA, you have the right to: dispute the debt within 30 days of receiving a validation notice; request verification before any further collection; stop communication by sending a written cease request; and be free from harassment. Debt Digest complies with FDCPA and Regulation F in every interaction.
Can I dispute a debt?
Yes. Log in to your consumer portal and select "File a Dispute" on any account. All collection activity on that account pauses immediately for 30 days while we verify the debt. You'll receive written verification before any collection resumes.
How do I stop receiving communications?
Log in to your consumer portal and go to Communication Preferences. You can toggle email and SMS off, or request full cease-communication under FDCPA §1692c(c). Note: we may still send required legal notices by mail, as required by law.
Payments & Security
How are payments processed?
Payments are processed securely through Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor used by millions of businesses. We never see or store your card number. Stripe handles everything on their secure servers.
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. Your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. We collect only the minimum information needed to manage your account. Your SSN last 4 digits are used solely for identity verification and are never used for credit checks or shared with third parties. You may request deletion at any time.
Credit Cleanse (Self-Enrollment)
What is Credit Cleanse?
Credit Cleanse is our self-service debt resolution tool for consumers who want to negotiate a settlement directly, without waiting for a creditor to place their account with us. You enter your debt details, we check the statute of limitations in your state, and we negotiate with the creditor on your behalf. Fee: 20% of the savings, collected only after the settlement is accepted and you've made your first payment.
Do I pay anything upfront?
No. We don't charge anything until we save you money AND you've made your first payment. This is required by the FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule - no advance fees on debt settlement services.
